Chandler AZ was named in Livability's Best List of Cities to Raise a Family in 2015 & 2016.  Other mentions include CNN Money's top 100 small cities to live in for 2012 and was awarded the title of “All-American City” by the National Civic League in 2010. Chandler, AZ, is one of the fastest growing cities in the US. Over the past decade, Chandler has grown by 118%! What began as a small, agricultural community is now a flourishing metropolis that offers its citizens a high quality of life in beautiful natural surroundings. It has even been called the “Oasis of the Desert” due to its picturesque desert horizon.

Shopping and Dining

Downtown Chandler is full of charming, independent shops, restaurants, and galleries, plus a handful of inviting antique shops. Downtown also beckons with fine dining including DC Steak House, Charm, Crust, and the VB Lounge. Shoppers and diners can also choose Chandler’s Fashion Center, a major shopping center with over 200 retail stores and restaurants.

Parks and Recreation

Chandler is a terrific place for locals to play, boasting over 50 community and neighborhood parks. One prized attraction is the Veterans Oasis Park and Environmental Education Center, which covers more than 100 acres of wetlands and desert and offers hiking and biking trails, picnic areas and urban fishing.

Fun in Chandler certainly extends beyond its great park system. For example, Chandler hosts its famous Ostrich Festival annually to commemorate the ostrich farms that thrived in the early 20th century. There are also several museums in the area including the Arizona Railway Museum and the Chandler Historical Museum.


Homes in Chandler range from single-family to condominiums and lofts. With an average sale price around $320,000, there are homes in the price range of nearly every family. The majority of homes in Chandler were built in the 1980s and 1990s, although south Chandler features many areas built after the 2000s.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Chandler is served mainly by Chandler Unified School District, although students in some part of the city are served by the Kyrene Elementary School District, Tempe Union High School District, Mesa Public Schools or Gilbert Public Schools (San Vicente neighborhood). Parents have a choice of many charter schools too, with Basis Charter Schools (one of the highest ranked), Great Hearts Academies, and Montessori Day Schools,  among others.  Or, choose from a wealth of private and parochial school choices, including Seton Catholic High School, St. Mary-Basha Catholic elementary school, Valley Christian High School and Crossroads Community School. With many highly rated schools in the area, Chandler’s parents consider themselves fortunate indeed.

Valley Metro provides some public buses for the citizens of Chandler to reach nearby areas. Chandler also has access to three highways (Loop 202, Loop 101 and I-10).
